Father’s Day as a child was always tough for me. I never knew what to get, or even make, for my dad. As with most things in life I came to realize that simple is usually better. So here’s four simple DIY Father’s Day gifts for kids.
Painted Rocks
What you will need:
Rocks (various sizes, but large enough to write a few words on)
Paint
Markers
This craft is a lot of fun. Simply find some different sized rocks and paint them any color(s) of your choosing. Once they dry, just write whatever you would like on them but make sure you use a marker. (We wrote Daddy Rocks and Our Dad Rocks on a few of ours!)
Daddy Mason Jars
What you will need:
Mason Jars
Items to Fill Mason Jars (we used paper clips, pens, and pencils)
Markers
Clear Nail Polish
Stickers (optional)
The kids decorated the jars with stickers and designs they drew (stars, hearts, etc..) I painted over these will clear nail polish. Since we filled one with paper clips, they wrote paper clips on the top of the lid and sealed it. The other two jars were filled with colored pens and pencils. We left the lids off of these and wrote on the jar itself. This was a great gift for my husband’s desk and it helped with organizing the three things he uses the most. Win/win for our household.
Daddy Candy Jar
What you will need:
Mason Jar(s)
Markers
Clear Nail Polish
Candy (large bag)
Similar to the jars for the desk, the kids wrote “Kisses from the Kids” on one jar and I painted over it with clear polish. They filled this one with Hershey kisses. The second jar they fill with jolly ranchers (my husband’s favorite) and decorated with stickers (optional) that I painted over with clear polish, as well. This went on the table beside his recliner.
Memory Book
What you will need:
Construction Paper
Single Hole Punch
RIbbon/Yarn
Printed Pictures
Double Sided Tape
Markers
Stickers (optional)
This has always been a favorite gift for the kids. We take 5 or 6 of their favorite pictures with dad from throughout the year and print them at our local CVS (4×6 for about .20 cents each). We then take some construction paper (2 for the cover, 2 for the first and last pages, 1 each for the pictures) and stack them together. I used a single hole punch to punch three holes in the stack. We take ribbon or yarn and cut 3 pieces the same length. We then use that to go in the holes to make our book hold together (we stick one end in the hole and pull it until it is even with the other end. Then we tie it like we do a shoelace). On the outside we write Father’s Day (and the year). The next page is either blank or has a sweet note from whichever child is making the book. The next 5-6 pages are pictures that we add with double-sided tape. As captions they write memories of the day the picture was taken. The last page after the last picture says “The End” or “Hope You Enjoyed”. The following page is blank as it is the ‘cover’.
If you are like me and struggle to find or make a great Father’s Day gift, these crafts are perfect for you. If you are usually awesome at making gifts for Dad, they are great to have in your crafty arsenal. Either way, they are sure to bring a smile to that special someone on Father’s Day.
