5 DIY Mother’s Day Crafts for Kids

5 DIY Mother’s Day Crafts for Kids goholidaygift.com
For as long as I can remember, Mother’s Day was a day set aside to make a homemade gift for my mom. While we made gifts at school, I always made her something at home as well. I’ve kept this tradition alive with my kids, so here are five DIY Mother’s Day crafts for kids to do.
Mother’s Day Vase
What you need:
Wine Bottle(s)/Coke Bottle(s)
Tissue Paper (we used pastel colors)
Double-Sided Tape
Twine
We started by removing the label(s) off of the bottles and letting them dry. We then took the tissue paper and folded it about three times. This made it thick and it was just the right size to cover the middle of the wine glass. (Coke bottles we folded 1 ½ to 2 times due to being a smaller size). We then put double-sided tape on the back of the tissue paper and wrapped it around the bottom. Once it was placed where we wanted it, we took twine and wrapped it around the top of the tissue paper 2x. (Some we wrapped in the middle, some on the bottom, some all three. It is whichever way you prefer). We then put some wildflowers in them and gave them to our favorite ‘moms’.
Mother’s Day Mason Jars
What you need:
Mason Jars
Permanent Markers (colors of your choice)
Ribbon
Stickers (optional)
Clear Nail Polish (optional)
Items to fill jars (we used m&ms, cotton balls, q-tips, and peppermint balls)
We started this one by decorating the jars. One child used stickers (flowers, butterflies, etc..) and I painted them with clear nail polish (to make them stay). One child used a marker (Purple was her choice) and wrote initials on the jar. I painted them with clear polish as well. The other two wrote initials on top of the lids in colored markers of their choice. I, again, took the clear polish over them as well. Once they dried, each child filled their jar with an item of their choice. (We chose items we knew my mom would enjoy). They then took some ribbon and tied it around the lid part of the jar. One made a bow, but the others left the ends to hang.
Days of the Week Bath Salts
What you need:
Bath Salts ( we bought a variety pack that included 5 different scents)
Glass Tubes (we bought a package of them that came with 7)
Markers (5 different colors were our choice)
Ribbon
This was probably the easiest craft of all.
We wrote the day of the week on the side of each tube (Monday-Friday) in a colored marker. **I used clear nail polish to go over each day**. We filled the tubes with bath salts and tied a ribbon around the top.
*****I placed them in a gift box with tissue paper before I gave them as gifts. This is completely optional. *****
Mother’s Day Chalkboard Wine Glass(es)
What you need:
Wine Glasses (we bought a four-pack)
Chalkboard Paint
Chalk (we used different colors, but white is fine)
Step one: dip the bottoms of the glass up to ¼ to ½ inch of the stem in chalkboard paint and let dry. Write whatever you like and you are done!
Mother’s Day Candy Bouquet
What you need:
Silk Floral Stems
Wire Cutters
Foam Mounting Squares (double-sided)
Candy ( we used Hershey’s Kisses in a large 9oz bag)
Ribbon
Cut the flowers to your desired length. Place a mounting square into the center of each flower. Peel off the tape on the front of the square and stick your piece of candy on it. Bunch the stems together and tie them with a ribbon.
Whatever you choose as your Mother’s Day craft is sure to be a hit. If you aren’t sure what to do with the kiddos, simply keep these ideas in mind. They are budget-friendly, easy, and sure to make a lasting impression.
